Phase-Controlled Thyristor Sub-Synchronous Damper Converter for a Liquefied Natural Gas Plant

نویسندگان

چکیده

In electrified liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants variable frequency drives (VFDs) interact with turbine-generator (TG) units creating torsional vibrations known as sub-synchronous interactions (SSTIs). Torsional can be dangerous for an LNG plant when they involve instability. The stability of depends on the configuration and number TG VFDs. such peculiar configurations cannot achieved acting VFDs control system. Alternatively, dedicated equipment is needed to damp vibrations. this paper, a damper (SSD) converter used mitigate SSTI phenomena. SSD consists thyristor H-bridge regulating phase additional torque provided at unit air-gap. A system proposed based oscillations measurement. An adaptive reference signal employed, also guaranteeing high performance in island-mode operation. solution increases damping all considered configurations. successful operation validated by comprehensive results.

Controlled Variables Selection for Liquefied Natural Gas Plant

The primary operational objective of liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants with low production capacity is to maximize LNG production. A robust control structure is required to meet economic objective while ensuring safety of the plant. The selection of appropriate controlled variables (CVs) is critical for design of the control structure. In this paper, general process understanding and the conce...

Liquefied Natural Gas for Trucks and Buses

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is being developed as a heavy vehicle fuel. The reason for developing LNG is to reduce our dependency on imported oil by eliminating technical and costs barriers associated with its usage. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has a program, currently in its third year, to develop and advance costeffective technologies for operating and refueling natural gas–fueled hea...

Liquefied Natural Gas Developments Specialreport

A multi-tube, spirally-wound, cryogenic heat exchanger, the main heat exchanger (MHE) is the principal piece of heat-transfer equipment in mixed-refrigerant liquefaction cycles for producing liquefied natural gas (LNG). An MHE unit operation model called the spirally-wound tube-bundle module was developed as an integral component of the dynamic simulation capabilities for a process modeling pac...

Dividing-Wall Column for Fractionation of Natural Gas Liquids in Floating Liquefied Natural Gas Plants

The development of floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) plants has resulted in a focus on reducing the weight and size of the topside processing facilities for these units. The conventional fractionation of natural gas liquids (NGL) in LNG plants implies a direct sequence of three or more conventional distillation columns requiring different levels of refrigeration. The results of a feasibilit...
